RisKLIM project — News from the Safety and Disaster Studies (SDS) working group at the University of Leoben.

The recent storms and floods in Austria in September this year demonstrate the urgent need for the RisKLIM project. The recent extreme weather events underscore the necessity for a more comprehensive understanding, effective communication, and robust management of climate risks.

On 20 September 2024, we held an in-real-life kick-off with the RisKLIM-project team in Salzburg. Led by GeoSphere Austria and in collaboration with partners, the German Weather Service, and the Avalanche Warning Centre at the Bavarian Environmental Agency.

Our team, Renate Renner (project leader at Montanuniversitaet) and Julia Graf (project management & PhD student) focus on identifying key success and risk factors for climate adaptation and crisis and risk communication. One of our primary objectives is to address the research gap between short-term natural hazard communication and medium to long-term climate adaptation communication.

After a successful and productive exchange at the kick-off, we look forward to continued collaboration with our partners in developing sustainable solutions for the Alpine region. Your support remains key to our shared success.
